Exterior Signage

Infinite Potential Explored

Channel Lettering

Channel letters, also referred to as letter signs, are perhaps the most popular exterior signage style. Offering impeccable branding and extreme visibility, this signage can be displayed as vivid solid signage or be illuminated with LED lighting adhered to an aluminum backing with an acrylic face. This signage provides a memorable, eye-catching effect that outshines flat lettering. As the largest manufacturer of Channel Letter Signs in Western Canada, we can offer your business impeccable branding and extreme visibility.

FAQs

1. What are channel letters?

Channel letters are made of plastic and metal. They are more commonly lit internally, though not always. A channel letter is any number, letter, or character constructed with a face, return (the side of the letter), and backer. The returns are made of thin aluminum sheeting that is black, white, or custom painted. The letter faces come in white to start and can then be applied with coloured or printed vinyl.

2. What are face lit channel letter signs?

Face-lit channel letter signs are the standard illumination for channel letter signs. They are illuminated internally with LED lights, lighting the “face” of each letter. These letters are hollow with the lights oriented to shine out the front of the letter.

Sign Cabinets (Light Boxes)

Light boxes, or sign cabinets, are installed on the exterior of a building and provide a cost effective way to promote your business and grab attention. LED lighting strips are inserted into custom sign cabinets (light boxes) to illuminate a translucent panel overlaid with vinyl graphics to create personalized branding. Burke can work with you to design, produce, and install your custom lightbox, which can be easily updated as your business grows.

FAQs

1. What material can be used for my sign cabinet (light box)?

We can print and install both flex face and lexan/polycarbonate for your sign cabinet (light box).

2. What is the difference between flex face and lexan?

Flex face is a flexible translucent vinyl substrate, typically with translucent graphics applied. It is best used for oversize cabinets. Using a flexible graphic helps reduce the weight on large cabinets. Lexan is a rigid plastic substrate, typically with translucent graphics applied. It is similar to acrylic but more impact resistant. Rolls can be up to 100” wide; anything exceeding must use flex face.

3. Can Burke just replace the face or service my existing sign cabinet (light box)?

Yes. We are a full service shop. If you already have the cabinet but need a new flex face or lexan face, we can do a simple replacement using your existing hardware. We can also service LED retrofitting for existing signs.

Halo Lettering

Halo lit, or halo glow channel letter signs, provide a sense of elegance to your building’s exterior. Using the latest LED technology, internal illumination with faces that remain opaque creates a halo illumination effect that draws the eye and screams sophistication. With illumination directed back against the building, light seeps around the letters, creating the “halo” effect. We work with only top-quality materials to ensure the desired effect is reached and your brand is amplified.

FAQs

1. What are halo lit channel letter signs?

Halo lit channel letter signs are a variation of channel or 3D letters that are made of plastic and metal. Typically, the face does not glow and only the back of the letter emits light, creating the “halo” glow effect. These letters are hollow with the lights oriented to shine out the back of the letter.

2. How is halo lit different from face lit?

Face lit channel letter signs are the standard illumination for channel letter signs. They are illuminated internally with LED lights, lighting the “face” of each hollow letter, with the lights oriented to shine out the front of the letter. Halo lit channel letter signs are a variation of channel or 3D letters that are made of plastic and metal. Typically, the face does not glow and only the back of the letter emits light creating the “halo” glow effect. These letters are also hollow with the lights oriented to shine out the back of the letter.

3. How are halo lit letters mounted?

Halo lit channel letters are stud-mounted to fascia, with 1-2 inches of space between to allow the light to spread behind the letters.

Push-through Signage

Push-through signage entails an aluminum enclosure with the lettering cut out. Acrylic letters featuring either printed graphics or solid colours are inserted through the cutouts, resulting in a visually striking 3D effect. The letters permit LED illumination to shine through the edges, creating a halo-like aura. This innovative signage solution is particularly advantageous when the design involves details that are too intricate or fine for traditional channel lettering methods.

Flush Mount Signage

Flush wall-mounted dimensional letters and logos offer a classic, branded look. This exterior signage style is available in any size, font, colour, and material you require, meaning complete customization is at your fingertips. Pin-mounting allows this lettering to stay flush against your building’s exterior, adding to the product’s durability.

2. How are flush mount signs mounted?

Flush mount signs are installed with either studs or tape. Flush mount signs installed with studs can be flush to the wall or mounted with a small space to create more dimension. Tape is typically only used on interior pieces and it is always flush to the wall.

3. What material can I use for flush mount signs?

Flush mount signs are typically aluminum or acrylic for outdoor use, and there are many more options for interior use. Contact our signage experts today to see what material works best for your project and budget.

Raceway Mounted Signage

Raceway mounting means channel letters are mounted to an aluminum channel box known as a raceway, rather than flush to the building exterior. Raceway mounted channel lettering is easily visible from a distance and the letters are pre-mounted onto the raceway during production, making the sign simple to install.
